easiest way is to put a high performance air filter into it. You will only gain a few hp. But if you get a full cold air intake kit, it will be more. Change the headers, put premium fuel in it. Install a high performance computer and a high flow exhaust system.
If you want a real boost, you should go for a turbo kit. those are a few thousand dollars, but will turn your rsx into a rocket.
If you want instant and relatively cheap power, buy an AEM v2 intake. They are dyno proven to add 15-20 hp to the wheels.
If you're a novice, stick with the AEM V2 because it's an easy do-it-yourself that takes about an hour. You can buy one on ebay for about $200-250.

Your engine will breathe better, the better an engine breathes the more power you will get from it.
About the only things you would be able to do yourself would be to install a computer chip and a cold air intake. Beyond that you are likely going to be over your head.
