Can i use a regular set of speakers for a PA on a cb radio?

instead of buying a pa speaker (i cant find them in any stores) can i use an old set of computer speakers? if i cut the power cable and attach them to power and ground, the cb radio uses a 3.5mm jack for speaker output. maybe even get fancy and hook the speakers to a switch so they are not constantly on when the car is running.

would this work? Can i use a regular set of speakers for a PA on a cb radio?
Yes you can . Most CB's require you use an 8 ohm , minumum 5 watt speaker though.

Most of todays speakers are 4 ohms and it may be too much load for the output.

There is a mono 3.5mm jack on the back of most CB's to plug this into.

If you have a pair of 4 ohm speakers you can wire them in series to get an 8 ohm load.

I would not try using the powered computer speakers because they do not have noise filtration built into thier amplifiers that car amplifiers do and you will most likely hear engine noise because of this.

I would read the specifications sheet on your speakers before you begin and if it does'nt list the impeadance(ohms), use a volt / ohm meter to determine this. Can i use a regular set of speakers for a PA on a cb radio?
Yes I dont know how good they would sound but you could use any speaker....
