I've been looking for a car with somewhat of a compromise between fuel economy and performance. I'm a college kid and the rsx seems almost perfect with is 4 cylinder 200hp engine. Am i wrong? Is a 2002 acura rsx type s with 128,000 miles on it a good buy?
I have owned a 2002 RSX Type S since new, and now have over 150K miles on it. I think it is probably the most reliable car I have ever owned and it has not been pampered. I take it to the dealer once a year for maintenance and excluding tires and brakes it needed little work of any sort before the 120K mile mark. I'm still on the original clutch and struts, engine uses less than a qt of oil every 3K or so. (I did have a leakage problem at one point though.)
It's still pretty quick, and handles almost as well as when new.. :)
I average 30mpg in a mix of city/highway driving, but the big "but" is that it is pretty sensitive to fuel quality. It is really designed for premium fuel and mine runs poorly on anything below 91 octane.
It is also not that great in snow, but good snow tires will help a lot. (No traction control.)
I think it will depend heavily on how well it is maintained, and whether or not it was treated kindly by its previous owner. The dealer I take mine to expects it to easily make the 200K mark.. (I am kind of planning on it.)
I love it and would buy another if they still made it. I will eventually settle for a TSX or TL..
Regarding the maintenance and repair costs I don't believe it will be significantly more than a garden variety Japanese car, and my experience with Acuras and Hondas as to maintenance expense has generally been (much) better than with the previous American brands I owned.
You are right that it is a good compromise between performance and economy. Just keep in mind 128k is getting up there in mileage. It is an Acura...and they do last a good long time....but only if they have been well taken care of by the previous owner. Make sure you see a history of maintainance records from the previous owner. Is a 2002 acura rsx type s with 128,000 miles on it a good buy?
its a great car, but 128,00 is alot, so if it brakes down, since its an acura it is going to cost a more than reagular cars.
My 02 type-s has 128k miles on it and runs perfectly!! A buddy of mine has an 02 type-s with 175k miles on it and it looks and runs just as good as mine.Is a 2002 acura rsx type s with 128,000 miles on it a good buy?
GO for it. You can get another 100,000 + miles out of the car.
